I can’t lie I fell in love with the cover of Vicious (Sinners of Saint) before I read the description. Come on, you did too!! You’ll find him hard to love at first but once you do you’ll fall hard forever. When Defy (Sinners of Saint) was released shortly after Vicious I didn’t even have to read the description or look at the cover. I was 1-click addicted to this series!
These were the first two books of L.J. Shen’s I’ve read but they won’t be my last. Check out her Amazon page to see her entire library of books. She should be your 1-click list too.
I am grateful she took time to answer my five burning questions before she got back to writing those stories of some of my favorite brooding males. Enjoy!
1. Let’s start off with Kill, Marry or Screw? Gideon Cross, Kellan Kyle or Vicious?
Kill Gideon, screw Vicious, marry Kellan. I really love Kellan. At the same time, I have a soft spot for Vicious (gee, I wonder why.)
2. Do you remember the first romance book you ever read? Can you tell me about it? EDITORS NOTE: I think mine was Bitch by Jackie Collins and I was about 10 or 11.
Yes. It was The Promise by Danielle Steel. I was a book junkie from a very young age but I remember putting the book down every night (I kind of stole it from my mom’s shelf. I think I was ten at the time, maybe slightly older), and thinking: I’ve never felt this way. Ever. Not just about a book, but in general. The euphoria it stirred in me was foreign and magical. And until this way, I try to read 2-3 non-romance books a month, but I always go back to the contemporary romance to get my fix. Always.
3. What type of stories would you like to write but haven’t yet? Menage, BDSM or a sexless romance. The sexless romance should come with a warning. Don’t you think?
Out of the three, I’d probably write a sexless romance. If I ever get to a point I write a sexless romance, I would probably throw a warning in, even though I find it ironic (in every other industry in the world, they warn you when there *is* sex involved.)
4.Tell us a little about your writing process and where you find inspiration?
I find inspiration in absolutely everything, and I don’t have a process. It sounds like a mess, but I really don’t. Every single book I’ve written was different. With one, it took me three weeks and the whole book was done. With another – eight months. With one, I thought, on the third draft, that it is ready for publication. With another – I got to an eigth draft and still wasn’t happy with it. I wish I had a better system. I feel like that way I could have probably published more books a year. But the truth is whenever I write a book, I’m pretty much its bitch. It dictates my schedule and not the other way around.
5. If you could have a dinner party and invite anyone to it, who would it be? Celebrities, book boyfriends, intellectuals or anyone. Name five people.
God, that’s a toughie. Okay, dead or alive, right? Out of the top of my head – Charles Bukowski, J.K. Rowling, Kristen Wiig (what? I love her!), Conor McGregor, Jared Trent (from the Fall Away series by Penelope Douglas).
6. For bonus points, what’s your favorite swear word?
FUCK! I try to tone the word down because I use it way too often in every day life too, but I just can’t. It’s a wonderful word. Really is.
