Author’s 5 Burning Q&A

nerdAuthor Cambria Hebert Answers My 5 Burning Questions: Kill, Marry, Screw & more…

The Hashtag Series is one of my favorites and don’t let it fool you this isn’t a YA book it’s definitely a funny, SEXY and suspenseful NA series.  Join Rimmel and Romeo and their friends on their road to LOVE and building friendships.  The latest book is #Poser (Hashtag Series Book 5) but these books should be read in order so start with #Nerd (Hashtag Series Book 1).  The next book is the last in the series and I am sad to see it ending.  Cambria is going to be under a considerable amount of pressure to finish this series so we are happy.   Check out Cambria’s social media at the end of the interview as well, as a list of her other books you should read.
Here’s the series in order:
#Nerd (Hashtag Series Book 1), #Hater (Hashtag Series Book 2) , #Player (Hashtag Series Book 3) , #Selfie (Hashtag Series Book 4) , #Poser (Hashtag Series Book 5)

I am grateful to Cambria for taking a few minutes to answer my 5 burning questions.

  1. Let’s start off with Kill, Marry or Screw? Gideon Cross, Kellan Kyle or Romeo?
Kill, Marry or Screw…. I guess I would choose marry.  I’m a hopeless romantic afterall. :} As far as book boyfriends, it’s way too hard to choose. So I’ll pick Romeo from my hashtag series. He’s always going to be number one to me! #ImNotBiasedAtAll
  1. Do you remember the first romance book you ever read? Can you tell me about it?  EDITORS NOTE: I think mine was Bitch by Jackie Collins and I was about 10 or 11.
Oh my goodness, I’ve been reading for so long I really don’t remember the first romance I read. I do remember reading all the Fear Street books by R.L. Stine and while those were thriller-ish type books I did like the side roman
ces that went on. Haha. Those were probably my first taste of “romance” in books.

 nerdhastag

  1. What type of stories would you like to write but haven’t yet? Menage, BDSM or a sexless romance. The sexless romance should come with a warning. Don’t you think?
I don’t really have a “bucket list” per se for my writing. I honestly just like to write what comes to me and where inspiration strikes. As far as sexless romance, I guess you could say I’ve written that. I think a lot of YA romance is sexless because its young adult (not all YA is sexless). My book Recalled is sexless as well. I’m sure some readers would like a warning, haha, but then again, I don’t think all romance novels need sex to be fabulous, it’s all about what’s right for the story.
  1. What’s your writing process like?
I usually put on a hoodie, pull the hood up, put some earbuds in my ears and pull up some instrumental music. Then I just try and see where the characters take me!
  1. If you could have a dinner party and invite anyone to it, who would it be?  Celebrities, rock stars, book boyfriends, intellectuals or anyone.  Name five people
This is such a hard question. Lol. I’d probably invite book boyfriends and characters. Probably the whole crew from the Hashtag series: Romeo, Braeden, Ivy, Rimmel, Trent and Drew.
  1. For bonus points, what’s your favorite swear word?
Ha! I plead the fifth! I do like to say “shat” instead of “shit” it amuses me. Lol! Hey, I never said I wasn’t weird…

Author Helena Hunting Answers my 5 Burning Questions: Kill, Marry, Screw and more…

I love FUNNY sexy books and they aren’t easy to find. I think Helena Hunting Pucked series is one of the most hilarious but maintaining the sexy books out there. In the first book Pucked, we find us following the quirky and no filter Violet falling for super star hockey player Alex Waters. Now I am not normally a fan of sports romance but this series made me appreciate and love hockey players.

Violet is hilarious, her love of Alex’s “MC” aka Monster Cock is enough to make it worth your time. I don’t want to give anything away but one of my favorite scenes in the book happens near the end and it would give too much away to say more. Lets just say it’s the best indecent proposal ever. These books are fun, sexy and sweet stories about accepting love.

Her latest book Pucked Up follows Violet’s step brother Miller “Buck” Butterson or as she calls him “the Yeti” which involves his body hair. This is a sibling nickname that has hilarious connotation throughout the story. In this book Miller falls for the vegetarian Sunny Waters or better known as Alex Waters little sister.   This story is slightly more dramatic in Sunny has a very hard time accepting Millers’ love because of his reputation of being a man whore. All the ups and downs are worth the ride and we get to see and hear Violet and enjoy her through out the book. I wish I had a friend like Violet but then again, I might be Violet.:}

The next book in the series call Pucked Over, you can pre-order here now.   You can check out all her other amazing books here on Amazon.puckedup

Helena took time out of her busy schedule writing about hilarious monster appendages to answers my five burning questions.  Check out her answers below.

1. Let’s start off with Kill, Marry or Screw? Gideon Cross, Kellan Kyle or Miller?  Marry: Miller Screw: Gideon Cross Kill: Kellan Kyle

2. Do you remember the first romance book you ever read? Can you tell me about it?  I think mine was Bitch by Jackie Collins and I was about 10 or 1It was probably Flowers in the Attic by VC Andrews. I would have been eleven or so. I think the ironic part is that VC never realized that the people reading her books were teenagers as they were meant for adults. They’re all about incest and these horribly backward relationships.

3. What type of stories would you like to write but haven’t yet? Menage, BDSM or a sexless romance. The sexless romance should come with a warning. Don’t you think?
I can’t do BDSM. I’m a lover and biter, not a tie me up kind of author. I don’t think I’m capable of writing sexless romance. If I was working on anything off genre it would have to be paranormal.

Young couple kissiing4. What’s your favorite thing to do when you aren’t writing or reading?
Umm . . . I guess that would be running or Lego with my kidlet. I’m crafty, so I like to do those kinds of things as well. I’m not very good at being idle.

5. If you could have a dinner party and invite anyone to it, who would it be?  Celebrities, book boyfriends, intellectuals or anyone.  Name five people.
I think I would just want to be with the people I love. But in  a fantasy world I’d have Stephen James, Jericho Barrons, Edward Cullen, Beckett Taylor and Christian Grey over for a dinner party.

6. For bonus points, what’s your favorite swear word?
Fuckerdoodles or motherpucker.

Author PaperswanLeylah Attar Answers My 5 Burning Question! Kill, Marry, Screw & more

The Paper Swan by Leylah Attar is one of those books that’s been getting 5+ star reviews this year.  Check out Aestas amazing review if you need help deciding to read it. Leylah’s previous two books have been just as well received 53 Letters for my Lover  and 53 Letters from his Lips: A Short Story, you must check them out.

All the great reviews had me curious just who is Leylah Attar.  Check out her answers to my five burning questions and then read The Paper Swan.

1.    Let’s start off with Kill, Marry or Screw? Gideon Cross, Kellan Kyle or Damian Caballero?
At some point, I’ve wanted to do all three, to varying extents, to all of them. I love feeling conflicting emotions about a character when I’m reading a book.

2.    Do you remember the first romance book you ever read? Can you tell me about it?
EDITOR NOTE: I think mine was Bitch by Jackie Collins and I was about 10 or 11.
I can’t remember the name of the first romance book I read, but I think it was by Janet Dailey. I do remember reading Hollywood Wives by Jackie Collins and being shocked, hooked, scandalized!

53 letters3.    What type of stories would you like to write but haven’t yet? Menage, BDSM or a sexless romance. The sexless romance should come with a warning. Don’t you think?
As long as the reader knows what to expect (or in this case, what NOT to expect), anything is fair game. But if you’re expecting a hot romp and get something entirely different, then yeah, I’d be pissed…haha! I think I’d like to write a romantic comedy. Or a romantic horror. Is that even a genre?

4.    What’s your favorite thing to do when you aren’t writing or reading?
I work full time, so when I have free time, reading and writing ARE my favorite things to do. Goofing around with my family is up there too. I also like Nutella. A lot.

damon5.    If you could have a dinner party and invite anyone to it, who would it be?  Celebrities, book boyfriends, intellectuals or anyone.  Name five people.
I would love to meet the characters in my books. To see them in flesh and blood would be super cool! So I would invite Troy, Shayda, Damian and Skye. The last spot would go to Ian Somerhalder. Because every table needs a center piece.

6. For bonus points, what’s your favorite swear word?
I make up a lot of words that sound like swear words. That way, I can use them as often, as freely, and as loudly as I want. Stub my toe? “Futbugger!” Paper cut? “Frakitall!”

image1Author Cassia Leo Answers my 5 Burning Questions: Kill, Marry, Screw and more…

One of my all-time favorite authors who is always guaranteed to make you get out the Aloe Vera tissues, Cassia Leo has a new book out Ripped.  This new book takes one of our most beloved characters from the Shattered Hearts series, sexy surfer and joker Adam Parker.   Ripped is the hilarious and scorchingly-hot tale of what it’s like balancing family and career when you’re the hottest surfer in the world.

Check out some of her other books the Shattered Hearts, Black Box, The Story of US series are just some of my other favorites from Cassia.  Check out links to all her books below.

I am grateful to Cassia for taking time out from her busy schedule to answer my five burning questions.  Check them out.

1. Let’s start off with Kill, Marry or Screw? Gideon Cross, Kellan Kyle or Adam Parker?  KILL: Donald Trump (no explanation needed), MARRY: Louis C.K. (I love a man who can make me laugh!), SCREW: Adam Parker (surfer/hero from my latest book, Ripped.)

2. Do you remember the first romance book you ever read? Can you tell me about it? EDITOR NOTE: I think mine was Bitch by Jackie Collins and I was about 10 or 11.

shatterheartsboxI used to read Sweet Valley High books in elementary school, and a lot of those had romance plots. Other than that, I don’t think I read romance until Twilight came along. I didn’t even read Twilight until after the movie came out. My neighbor had been bugging me to read the series, but she made it sound so lame. I was surprised when I began reading the series that I loved it.

3. What type of stories would you like to write but haven’t yet? Menage, BDSM or a sexless romance. The sexless romance should come with a warning. Don’t you think?
I love writing and reading family dramas, so two of my favorite genres to read and write are women’s fiction and domestic noir. I’d love to write something about a domestic dispute gone terribly wrong.

4. What’s your writing process like?
It varies depending on the book. Sometimes I outline a novel before I start writing, using a special plot diagram based on the three-act structure, to make sure I hit various key plot points and conventions. Sometimes, and these are usually the books people like the most, I just pants it. I’ll start with a concept and a pretty solid idea of how it ends, then I’ll fill in the blanks as I write.

blackbox25. If you could have a dinner party and invite anyone to it, who would it be?  Celebrities, rock stars, book boyfriends, intellectuals or anyone.  Name five people.
Jodi Picoult (my favorite author), Gillian Flynn (another favorite), Chris Nolan (I’d love to pick his brain on storytelling and characterization!), Louis C.K. (I may be a little obsessed with him), and Kanye West (to keep things interesting.

6. For bonus points, what’s your favorite swear word?
I’m going to have to go with fuck because it’s so versatile. As Jesus once said, in reference to fucks, the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Which is why sometimes, there are zero fucks to giveth. Fucks can fly! I rest my case.

badboydaddyAuthor Chance Carter Answers My Five Burning Questions: Kill, Marry, Screw & more

I came across Bad Boy Daddy by Chance Cater in my Amazon recommendations and loved the description.  A bad boy wants a baby?  Who wouldn’t want to read that story.  Okay I’ll admit it I bought it because of the cover and the story. This is a mega second chance romance and I won’t spoil it by telling you anymore about it. Just buy it at 99 cents or its FREE on Amazon Unlimited, so worth it. I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this story.

First time author, Chance took a few minutes from his busy schedule working on his next book to answer my five burning questions.

Here’s the questions:

1. Let’s start off with Kill, Marry or Screw? Gideon Cross, Kellan Kyle or lead in your? NOTE: We have to chance the question for a male author.

So then I’ll choose from their ladies, Eva, Kiera or Faith. Kill Eva, Screw Kiera because she’d be great in bed, and marry Faith because she was faithful for all those years who wouldn’t want a wife like that.

notebook2. Do you remember the first romance book you ever read? Can you tell me about it? NOTE: I think mine was Bitch by Jackie Collins and I was about 10 or 11.
It was actually The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. My sister was reading it and told me to so I did, I was 13.

3. What type of stories would you like to write but haven’t yet? Menage, BDSM, M/M or a sexless romance. The sexless romance should come with a warning. Don’t you think?

Haha probably all of the above, other than sexless romance. There’s no such thing right? Oh no there is and its fine if you are warned in advance.

4. What got you into writing romance books?
I’m not sure. I like the type of characters I can develop in romance, it’s more raw than other genres.

5. Can you tell us about your next book?
Don’t want to give anything away but I’m working on the next book of the series for Bad Boy Daddy, hope you like the brothers 😉

johnnydepp6. Bonus questions, If you could have a dinner party and invite anyone to it, who would it be? Celebrities, fictional book characters, historical characters or anyone. Name five people.
Johnny Depp, Alexander the Great, Geena Davis and Jimmy Fallon.

UntamedAuthor S.C. Stephens Answers my 5 Burning Questions: Kill, Marry or Screw and more

Many years ago my first ebook purchase was Thoughtless and my life changed forever along with a rapid decrease in my bank account. I have to thank  S.C. Stephens for giving me a new hobby and resurrecting my long lost love of reading and books.

Last week, she released Untamed, which is Griffin’s story our favorite D-bag. I’ve loved Griffin from the beginning wondering what his real story was and the cause of all his Griffiness. S.C. has brought us his story and now I know my love for him wasn’t wasted. For all his bravado and ego, Griffin’s fierce love of his family and eventually his friends makes him realize he’s a lucky man.   He just needed one of life’s reality checks slapped right across his face. After reading this book, I really hope that S.C. considers writing a NA series featuring the kids of the D-bags.

As much as I am a Kellen Kyle girl, I can’t deny that I might love Griffin more now but let’s keep that a secret between us.

I am so honored that S.C. took a few minutes out of her business schedule to answer my five burning questions. You’ll love the answer to question number 1. Enjoy!

Here’s the questions:

KellanK31. Let’s start off with Kill, Marry or Screw? Gideon Cross, Kellan Kyle or lead in your Griffin?  I don’t think I could kill anyone! Marry: Kellan, for sure. He’s just…sigh. Screw: Griffin. Definitely.

2. Do you remember the first romance book you ever read? Can you tell me about it? I think it was Now and Forever by Danielle Steele. It was gut-wrenching, painful, yet sexy too. It got to me.

3. What type of stories would you like to write but haven’t yet? Menage, BDSM or a sexless romance. Hmmm…I don’t know if I can write any of those! I’ll just stick to angst. 🙂

4. What’s your favorite thing to do when you aren’t writing or reading? I’m a homebody, so I just like being at the house with my family.

5. If you could have a dinner party and invite anyone to it, who would it be?  Celebrities, book boyfriends, intellectuals or anyone. I’m not good around strangers, so it would have to be people I know and love – Rebecca Donovan, Jenn Sterling, K.A. Linde, C.J. Roberts, and Jillian Dodd. That would be a great dinner party!

6. For bonus points, what’s your favorite swear word? Fuck. It’s so versatile! It works for everything!

If you’ve been living under an Kindle for the last few years you must read this series, check them out here:

Author T.M. Frazier Answers My 5 Burning Question! Kill, Marry, Screw & more.

king_tyrantThis is one of my favorite two books of the year King and Tyrant by T.M. FrazierKing is an amazing anti-hero that shouldn’t be loveable but is one of the sexiest romance leads ever.  Broken by society and unable to love, he takes in a girl who doesn’t remember who she is, he calls her Doe.  In his own way, he helps Doe heal and they develop a very hot relationship. They both begin to have feeling for each other.  King’s life is shady but he’s trying is best to get it together so he can get his daughter back in his life.  King’s color friends Preppy and Bear are his family.  These men are fiery, loyal and protective are their friend.  On a personal note, Preppy is one of my favorite all time book characters.  Ms. Frazier has done an amazing job creating this world with characters that are flawed and fucked up but so worth loving.  Tyrant is the continuation of their story with an amazing twiest.  I hesitate to say more because you should go in blind in this story and hold on tight for the amazing journey.

These books were my first introduction to T.M. Frazier books called The Dark Light of Day and Dark Needs. Don’t miss cover for her next book, Lawless done below.

Thanks to T.M. Frazier who took time out of her busy schedule  to answer my five burning questions.

dark Tm1.    Let’s start  off with Kill, Marry or Screw? Gideon Cross, Kellan Kyle or on the leads in your book?  This one is so hard.  For instance with a character like KING…you want to do them all to him.  lol

2.   Do you remember the first romance book you ever read? Can you tell me about it? I think mine was Bitch by Jackie Collins and I was about 10 or 11.
I was really young and it was Forever Amber.  It’s a historical romance and it’s SUPER long and was written in the 1940’s.  It is an awesome read.  I reread it a few years back.

King Tyrant Teaser3.   What type of stories would you like to write but haven’t yet? Menage, BDSM or a sexless romance. The sexless romance should come with a warning. Don’t you think?
Comedy.  It’s happening.  Just not anytime soon.  And I don’t think anything I write would be completely sexless.  What is a sexless romance anyway?  We held hands and then we pretended neither of us had genitals?  lol

4.   What’s your writing process like? I have a 10 month old so it’s insane.  I write mostly at night.  9pm-3am.  I am crazy about it and I make my husbands life a living hell but he is amazing!!!!!

5.   If you could have a dinner party and invite anyone to it, who would it be?  Celebrities, rock stars, book boyfriends, intellectuals or anyone.  Name five people.
I just want a big dinner with my readers because no joke they are my favorite people in the world besides my family.

6. For bonus points, what’s your favorite swear word? FUCK.  It’s a close second to MOTHERFUCKE

Author Debra Presley Answers My 5 Burning Question! Kill, Marry, Screw & more.

6x9TemplateA good friend and indie writer published her debut novel Finding Us and I couldn’t wait to tell everyone all about it.

Debra is a native New Yorker who made her escape to the suburbs. She often returns to her hometown to visit her favorite deli for a bagel with butter, because there’s no better bagel than a New York bagel. When not in search of bagels, Debra spends her time running Book Enthusiast Promotions, an online promotions company that helps indie authors spread the word about their books. She’s also the owner of The Book Enthusiast blog.

She started writing lyrics in her wall-to-wall NKOTB bedroom at the tender age of thirteen while dreaming of the day she’d become Mrs. Jordan Knight.  That dream never came to fruition, but she has continued to write.

Book description: Pop star Abby Murphy is living every girl’s dream. She has fame, fortune, and a handsome boyfriend, a guitar player named Sean. That changes the night she finds him in the arms of another woman. Hurt and betrayed, Abby ends their relationship. But Sean won’t accept the breakup, and she soon learns that he’s had a hidden agenda all along. Overnight, Sean transforms from loving boyfriend to dangerous adversary, and Abby no longer knows who she can trust among her friends and family. Abby turns to her bodyguard, Danny Nucci, a man who will do everything in his power to keep her safe. She refuses to give in to her attraction in order to preserve her new found independence as well as protect Danny from Sean’s machinations.

Check out what Debra’s answers to my five burning questions.

1. Let’s start off with Kill, Marry or Screw? Gideon Cross, Kellan Kyle or Dann Nucci?
Hmm, I think this is the toughest question ever!!!!! I’d marry Danny Nucci from my book, Finding Us, because I’m just a little in love with him! I suppose I’d screw Gideon Cross because well he’s Gideon and finally, because there is no other choice, I’d kill Kellan (although I’d really like to keep him on the side to screw;)).

2. Do you remembeLookTeaserr the first romance book you ever read? Can you tell me about it? Editor note: I think mine was Bitch by Jackie Collins and I was about 10 or 11.
I wish I remembered but I don’t. I just remember not really being a big reader growing up but when Oprah started her book club I started reading. I liked that the books in the club were recommended and I knew they’d be good. Silly reason but it started me reading.

3. What type of stories would you like to write but haven’t yet? Menage, BDSM or a sexless romance.  EDITOR NOTE: The sexless romance should come with a warning. Don’t you think?
I kinda love a good dark romance and would love to try to write one but I just don’t think I could be that twisted. So I’d say a mob themed book. I LOVE mob stories and I have two rolling around in my head.

4. What’s your favorite thing to do when you aren’t writing or reading?
I love to spend time with my nieces and nephew. They are a hoot! If I’m in need of relaxation though I love to go get a mani/pedi and just ignore all social media.

5. If you could have a dinner party and invite anyone to it, who would it be?  Celebrities, rock stars, book boyfriends, intellectuals or anyone.  Name five people.

  1. Oprah Winfrey – because I think she’s awesome
  2. Debbie Gibson – because she was my childhood idol
  3. Kristen Ashley – because she’s one of my favorite authors and I’d love to get to chat with her about all her awesome books
  4. JM Darhower – because she’s another one of my favorite authors and her series Forever has stayed with me after all this time
  5. Kellan Kyle because he’s like the ultimate book boyfriend

6. For bonus points, what’s your favorite swear word?
Fuck – I use it often.

Author CJ Markusfeld Answers My 5 Burning Questions: Kill, Mary, Screw & more

CJMarksufeldThe book Vanguard by CJ Markusfeld came to my attention on Aeastas Book blog. After reading this glowing review I couldn’t not check it out. A great sexy summer page turning read, I read it all in one sitting.

This is CJ’s first book and worth checking Vanguard out.  Check out her answers to my 5 (or 6) burning questions.

1. Lets start off with Kill, Marry or Screw? Gideon Cross, Kellan Kyle or Mikeal/Michael?  (I thought Michael looked like a younger Mark Ruffalo)
So listen … I have no idea who those other two guys are. (CJ consults briefly with a knowledgeable friend, then with Dr. Google.) First let me apologize to Sylvia Day and S.C. IMG_0710Stephens. A few years ago, I became so disenchanted with the trends in the romance genre that I took an extended break from writing and reading it. I switched instead to historical fiction, fantasy, sci-fi and the occasional dose of YA. It’s not that I don’t love romance – far from it, it’s my chosen genre to write in. Writers weren’t writing the romances I wanted to read, so I went out and wrote some myself.

I know, I know … I didn’t answer your question. Having absolutely no context for the choice, I’d probably marry this Gideon fellow (he’s a billionaire, right?), fuck the rock star child Kellan and almost certainly kill Michael. Or at least kick his backside very hard.

2. Do you remember the first romance book you ever read? Can you tell me about it?  I think mine was Bitch by Jackie Collins and I was about 10 or 11.
I’m sure I read a few Harlequins with the covers torn off as a kid, the ones with the throbbing members and whatnot. However, a romance I read very early on that heavily influenced my writing is The Far Pavilions by M.M. Kaye. It’s a genre-defying book about an Englishman raised as a native-born Hindu in British India, and his unending love for Anjuli, an Indian princess. It’s part romance, part historical, and a deeply political statement about the colonization of developing world countries by the super-powers of the time. It’s several hundred pages long; I read one copy until it fell to pieces and had to buy a second.

3. What’s your favorite thing to do when you aren’t writing or reading?
My favorite thing to do. Well, I’m a single parent, have a challenging career in online marketing, and I write – not a ton of time left over for interesting hobbies. Love to travel, but don’t get to do it very often anymore. Mostly I love talking to my friends and my daughter, listening to their stories, asking insightful questions, learning. With the circumstances of my life limited, I’ve come to deeply appreciate human interactions with the people I love most.

4. What type of stories would you like to write but haven’t yet? Menage, BDSM or a sexless romance. The sexless romance should come with a warning. Don’t you think?
Sexless romance – is that a thing now? That’s a bit of a letdown. If I’m buying a book for the purpose of reading a hot, racy story, I’d feel pretty ripped if I got a sexless romance, so there’s something to be said about the warning idea.

I know, I’m being difficult. I’d choose other genres to write first. I’d love to try my hand at a fantasy or sci-fi novel. If I had to choose, believe it or not, I’d probably write the sexless romance. A truly great romance doesn’t need sex to make readers swoon; it’s all in how you write the characters and their love. To write that kind of love without having the physical to fall back on? That’s a fascinating challenge.

5. If you could have a rock star dinner party and invite anyone to it, who would it be?
A rock star dinner party … I can invite anyone at all? No matter how improbable? Then I’d invite my on-again, off-again partner’s mother. She died the week I met him, and it’s a great sadness that I never got to meet her. She was a progressive artist who really rocked life. I’d love to treat her to a great meal and hear some of her experiences first hand. Maybe she could give me some insights into her very talented, annoying, eccentric son. 6. For bonus points, what’s your favorite swear word?
I am an appalling potty mouth in multiple languages. A VP at my last job said it was part of my personal brand. “Fuck me” is probably my signature phrase, but the variety is truly endless. How I’ve managed to avoid getting fired in the course of my career is nothing short of astounding.

Rockstar Author Anne Mercier Answers my 5 Burning Questions: Kill, Marry or Screw & more

fallingdownAnne Mercier has been kind of enough to answer my five burning questions check out her answers are below.  Her Rockstar books are one of my favorite rocker series. She’s the master of the sexy bad boy rockers who are full of sarcasm and sexual innuendo. These sexy and dirty talking rockers that you will fall in love with and want to quit your job and go on their BFD tour.

The first book in the series is Falling Down where we meet Jesse and Lucy.   Lucy had a crush on Jesse since she was twelve and he was seventeen and on the verge of stardom. An undeniable connection was made at that brief meeting that she would get to revisit years later.  Join this amazing journey with this band, you won’t regret checking out this series it delivers with heart and heat.

interludeanne_mercierThe latest in the series Interlude (Book 4) it all starts with a glimpse into the past of Falling Down, when Jesse meets Lucy, and everything you’ve wondered about Cage. Let’s see more on how they got to where they are right now.

Check out her other new release not in the Rock Star series called Whispered Truth This story is about Myah who was happy until one day her father died. Life would never be the same but there’s Kyle who can make her believe everything will be okay again. Kyle has been in love with Myah most of his life and he hopes that she’ll let him help her heal and love him.

Anne answers my five (or six) burning questions:

1. Let’s start off with Kill, Marry or Screw? Gideon Cross, Kellan Kyle or Cage Nichols.
Kill – Kellan Kyle.  Marry – Cage Nichols – Amplify (Rockstar #3).  Screw – Gideon Cross.

2. Do you remember the first romance book you ever read? Can you tell me about it? I think mine was Bitch by Jackie Collins and I was about 10 or 11.
Yep, I remember it clearly. It was Breath of Scandal by Sandra Brown. I was about 14 or 15 and I snuck it from my mom’s bag of books. It was a bit naughty in parts, not graphic like today, but as a young girl I was like, alright! From then on I snuck books from my mom.

3. What type of stories would you like to write but haven’t yet? Menage, BDSM or a sexless romance. The sexless romance should come with a warning. Don’t you think?
I’d like to write a BDSM book and will sometime in the near future. I know a few of my Rockstar characters are into it. I’d like to write a menage, but I wouldn’t know how to make it a happily ever after… unless…  oh!  Look there!  I figured it out! Stay tuned.

milov4. What’m-shadows-11 copys your favorite thing to do when you aren’t writing or reading?
Listen to music or chat on FB.  I’m an indoors-y person and a huge introvert.

5. If you could have a rock star dinner party and invite anyone to it, who would it be?  Milo (Ventimiglia) would be there so you don’t have to include him.
Ha!  Awesome, Milo’s already there! Just one person? M. Shadows – singer of Avenged Sevenfold.

6. For bonus points, what’s your favorite swear word?
I have a lot… but I admit Fuck is my favorite swear word. I don’t even realize I use it a lot of the time. I like it because it can be an adjective, verb, noun, etc. 😛  ha.  <3

Author Sawyer Bennett Answers My 5 Burning Questions.

sawyerbennettOne of my favorite authors Sawyer Bennett has a new book out this week (July 28th) called Wicked Fall (The Wicked Horse Series Book 1).  She’s taken time out of her busy schedule to answer my 5 burning questions!  If you have some how missed reading one of her books check out her Last Call and Cold Fury Hockey series they are full of hot dirty talking alphas.

Her new book Wicked Falls is about Woolf Jennings, a multi-millionaire and hot-as-hell Wyoming rancher and sweet Callie Hayes has returned home to Wyoming and is looking forward to starting her life over again.  Excited  doesn’t even describe how excited I am to read her new venture into cowboy country!

1. Let’s start off with Kill, Marry or Screw? Gideon Cross, Kellan Kyle or lead in new book or past books? These are always the hardest questions!!!  Okay, so I’d kill Kellan Kyle, marry Gideon Cross and screw Woolf Jennings from my book Wicked Fall. And I’m not just saying that because that’s releasing now, but because he owns a fantasy sex club and he’s kinky as all get out. He’s by far my sexiest, most sinful hero yet.

2. Do you remember the first romance book you ever read? Can you tell me about it?
I can remember… it was Prisoner of My Desire by Johanna Lindsey. I thought it was so naughty and the hero was totally alpha, which I think set me on my course to one day write men like that. I don’t read her anymore but I did pick up one of my old paperbacks and read it a few months ago, and thought… I’d so make Johanna Lindsey blush with my books.

3. What type of stories would you like to write but haven’t yet? Menage, BDSM or a sexless romance. The sexless romance should come with a warning. Don’t you think.
Big on my horizon is to delve into romantic comedy. All of my books have some humor woven through, but I’d like to bump that up and make it the main focus. They’ll still have some sexy times, of course, but the emphasis would be on the humor throughout the story. I hope to launch my first one next year under a pen name which I’m still trying to think of. Any suggestions?

4. What’s your favorite thing to do when you aren’t writing or reading?
I have lots of favorite things JoshAndMeAndFishbut it’s summer time and one of my fav things is fishing. I just spent the weekend in Wyoming fly fishing. Here’s a picture to prove it!!!

5. If you could have a rock star dinner party and invite anyone to it, who would it be?

Holy hell, that would be fun. My number one guest and who would get the head chair at the end of the table would be Rob Zombie. I find him utterly fascinating and I love his music. For cool points, I’d invite Aerosmith and make Steven Tyler sing “Back In The Saddle” for me. I’d also invite Marilyn Manson and Courtney Love for entertainment and shock value. Oh, and I’d invite my mom too so I could laugh at how stunned she would be with that crowd but I’d be proud of her because she could roll with anything.

6. For bonus points, what’s your favorite swear word?
It’s a proven fact that I use the word “fuck”sawyerzack an average of 62 times in each of my books. Does that answer your question?

My Burning Questions & Kill, Marry or Screw

One of my favorite authors is Elle Aycart.  She’s got a new book out called Heavy Secrets that is a continuation of Heavy Issues. Elle’s books are sexy but they are also laugh out loud funny.  Her dialogue and situations will make  you laugh and will also may you cry.  The characters are sweet, sexy and wonderful. You’ll want to move in with the and live with the sexy Bowen brothers.

The world is filled with a cast of hilarious characters which includes a visit to a certain retirement home.

The fibowenrst book of Elle’s that I read was Heavy Issues and then I moved on to the other Bowen Brother books in the series Ink Ever After & More than Meets the Ink.  James, Max and Cole are all sorts of sexy brothers with an alpha tendencies.

max1. Let’s start off with Kill, Marry or Screw? Gideon Cross, Kellan Kyle or Max?
I’d say Marry and Screw the three of them. That’s the beauty of collecting BBF; you can jump from one to another depending on your mood 😉 Besides, I still have to meet a romance hero I would like to kill. I always end up finding redeeming characteristics lol.

2. Do you remember the first romance book you ever read? Can you tell me about it? I think mine was Bitch by Jackie Collins and I was about 10 or 11.
I’m a very latecomer to the world of romance. I think I read my first romance novel around 6, 7 years ago (If we exclude all the classics the likes of Anna Karenina I had to read for school). It was The Secret by Julie Garwood. I liked it so I gave a try to the recommendations Amazon kept sending me (I bought Harry Potter books through them and for some reason Amazon kept recommending me vampire books. Probably they thought vampires and wizards were similar lol). I got my hands on the Black Dagger Brotherhood books and that was it, I was hooked. Since then I’ve read countless romance novels, but Rhage still holds a special place in my heart.

ElleAycart3. What type of stories would you like to write but haven’t yet? Menage, BDSM or a sexless romance. The sexless romance should come with a warning. Don’t you think?
LOL definitely. Nothing worse than expecting smut and not getting it. My sis is one of my beta readers and she’s always saying that I’m traumatizing her with the sex scenes in my books. At some point I’m going to write a sexless romance and dedicated to her.

4. What’s your favorite thing to do when you aren’t writing or reading?
I recently found out I love working out (never in a million years would I have guessed that!! I’m one of those persons who hated gym class in school and refused to run unless there was a fire or someone was chasing me). Now I work out everyday. I love watching series marathons. My girls have inherited that too, so at the moment we’re going through Buffy, the Vampire Slayer. I’m going through The Flash with hubby 🙂

5. What is the one thing you’d like people to know about you when reading your books?
People who know me say I’m very funny so it’s difficult to believe but I’ve struggled with depression my whole life, since as early as I can remember, actually. There has been periods in my life when getting out of bed in the morning was almost impossible. It’s an everyday battle but it’s worth it, because I’m winning. If I can do it, so can anyone.

6. For bonus points, what’s your favorite swear word? British ones are so much better than US ones.
FUCK is the one I use the most, in all its forms (fuck, fucking, fucker lol).
I love BOLLOCKS though, it sounds so… Hugh Grant
I’m from Spain, so Spanish is my mother tongue. For all of you who speak Spanish, ZAPOZ Y ZALAMANDRAZ is my favorite swear word. It’s so damn funny (it’s from cartoons).

Carmen’s new steamy rock story Revelry isn’t to be missed.  Check out hot rocker guy, hot girl, plus his band mate with a 12″ cock and we have one sizzling romance.  Like any story of Carmen’s, I wouldn’t call this a typical menage or love triangle book.  You have to read it to find out but it’s this story is so SEXY, HEART BREAKING and actually a little FUNNY.  RAUNCHY & FLAWED are always my favorite words to describe her books and she should take that as the highest compliment!  I LOVE HER!

1. Let’s start off with Kill, Marry or Screw? Gideon Cross, Kellan Kyle or Cooper Ryan?
Okay, I love Gideon Cross, but I’m afraid he’s going to have to die a slow horrible death, because HELLO, ROCK STARS!!! So I probably wouldn’t want to marry Kellan (let’s face it, he does some very douchie things in those books). I’m going to go with sexing up Kellan and marrying Cooper Ryan, because if I marry the guy, I get sex on tap anyway, and he’s a sweetheart that deserves a happy ending, though I guess with me he’d likely wind up in a psych ward.

2. Do you remember the first romance book you ever read? Can you tell me about it? I think mine was Bitch by Jackie Collins and I was about 10 or 11.
Oh god, the pain of thinking back that far. *rubs temples* The first time I remember falling in love with love was probably through reading Cinderella. *shakes fist* Curse you, Disney. But if we’re talking real novels, I used to be addicted to point horror, which was a series of YA PNR books released by different authors. There was one called The Boyfriend that I just loved. I must have read it ten times. I still remember exactly what happened, but I can’t find the author’s name for the life of me.

3. What type of stories would you like to write but haven’t yet? Menage, BDSM or a sexless romance. The sexless romance should come with a warning. Don’t you think?

That definitely should come with a warning. 😉 I’ve just recently done menage (REVELRY) Hello, again hot rock stars. One of them even has a 12″ penis. Yup, I went there.  I have a BDSM novel, or two, floating around in my head. The first is scheduled for a tentative 2016 release.

I adore writing horror, particularly zombie squishiness with blood, and guts, and gore, oh my! If I could write that alone and still pay my bills I absolutely would. But I’d love to write a good old fashioned Chick Lit. With most of my books there’s a healthy dose of slapstick humour in them, life is too serious to not be able to laugh, even when you’re knee deep in zombie innards or an angst-ridden-darker-than-the-deepest-recesses-of-my-soul biker book. I like to pepper my torture with a little laugh or two, so I think it would be an interesting challenge for me to just write a book without violence or someone dying.

Sad vagina taint revelry carmen jenner4. What’s your favorite books to read when you aren’t writing?  Do you have a favorite genre?
Pretty much anything that has an epic love story at the heart of it. Or anything that pushes my boundaries as a reader. I mentioned above that I love horror, I love that squishy sinking feeling in your gut when you read a good horror, but I like them to have a touch of romance too. I used to be a hardcore YA PNR fan, and I love a good Dystopian. I get so little time to read these days that I only listen to Audio, so as long as there’s sex and a good narrator, I’m a happy girl.

5. Do you have a motto that you use to inspire yourself to write?
Yeah, I kind of have an Ernest Hemingway quote that I’ve adapted that helps me get in the zone. So Hemo is my homeboy. I adore his brain, if I were a zombie I would have hit up Hemingway first in the hopes that he’d pass some of his awesomeness on to me.
There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.”

“Remember to bleed.” is kind of my adaptation of that. If I’m not bleeding on the inside when I write then chances are my audience isn’t bleeding when they read it. And I’m not happy unless I’m torturing my readers, because it means they’ve walked away with an experience.

I’d like to get tattoos of both of these quotes one day soon. I wanted “bleed” on my finger, as sort of an even more simplified Super Secret Squirrel version of it but I thought maybe that was a little emo.

6.For bonus points, what’s your favorite swear word? Aussie ones are so much better than US ones.
Ha ha! I do have a lot of favourites. I’m not sure it’s specifically Aussie as such, but I’m a big fan of taking the C word and meshing it with other words, i.e Cunt-rag, cunt-features, cunt-burger. You can literally merge the C word with anything and have it sound both hilarious and insanely dirty. You can do this with fuck too, but it’s not quite the same. I know a lot of my US readers love a good old fashioned Aussie Dickhead, but I’m hardcore, baby! 😉

rebelLet’s start off with Kill, Marry or Screw? Gideon Cross, Kellan Kyle or Colin from Rebel Wheels?

My book boyfriend is Colin from Book 3 of the Rebel Wheels series. But then there’s Rebel from Book 1 and Mick from Book 2 also. They’re very different but also very similar in some ways, and all versions of guys I find very sexy. Believe it or not, I haven’t read the Crossfire series or SC Stephens series, because I’m always very worried about other people’s writing leaking into my own. When I’m writing romance, I don’t read it. Crazy, I know. I’m a huge romance fan from way back (I mean, like WAY back, when I was too young to be reading the stuff), but it’s been a while since I’ve read anything in the genre. So I’m not sure who I’d kill, marry, or screw in that list you gave me. Sorry, that’s a lame answer!

2. Do you remember the first romance book you ever read? Can you tell me about it? I think mine was Bitch by Jackie Collins and I was about 10 or 11

I have read so many, I have no idea what the first one was. Maybe Forever by Judy Blume? It was the one semi-sexy book she wrote about two teens losing their virginity together. In 6th grade, all the girls were handing the book around, taking turns reading it. We all had to swear on the Holy Bible (everything was sworn on the Holy Bible back then) that we’d keep our parents from seeing it. For a 6th grader, that book was steamy! Whoo! I also snuck the book Wifey from my mother, reading it during the day locked in my room when she wasn’t around. She kept it on top of the fridge and I’d climb up on the counter to get it. I was maybe 11 years old. That was pretty hard core for an 11 year old. I let my neighbor friend read the best parts with me too. ha ha. No wonder her mother never liked me.

justonenight3. What type of stories would you like to write but haven’t yet? Menage, BDSM or a sexless romance. The sexless romance should come with a warning. Don’t you think?

I’d like to write more romances without the graphic sex scenes, believe it or not. As a reader, I went through phases where I’d just scan the sex scenes because they were so similar they became boring. Then I appreciated the novel that only alluded to the sex and left it to my imagination. Nowadays, as a romance author, I save the sex scenes for the end (I write “insert sex scene” where they’re supposed to be and go back!) and really work to make sure they’re each very believable and genuine, tailored to the personalities of the characters. After doing it 30 times, it gets harder and harder to do that (no pun intended, ha ha). I have this paranoia that my sex scenes will start to look rote or something, so I spend more and more time on them. At this point, I’m either going to have to start having some similar scenes or move into BDSM, which would be tough since personally I’ve never been into that culture. I think it’s important to write about what you know, and I’m afraid to let someone put either handcuffs on me or put a whip in my hand. I could only imagine what would happen next, and believe me, I have a very fertile imagination

McKenzie4. What’s your favorite thing to do when you aren’t writing or reading?

Ride my horse while my daughter rides hers.

5. What is the one thing you’d like people to know about you when reading your books?

To know about? Hmmm, well maybe that I’m hoping they’re really enjoying themselves. I hope they’re getting lost in the world, the characters’ worlds, and forgetting their chores and troubles for at least a little while.

6. For bonus points, what’s your favorite swear word?

Fuck balls. It was something said by Deb in the series Dexter that just flew out of her mouth during one episode and made me laugh out loud. She has a serious potty mouth, so I really found her entertaining, but that scene in particular was super funny for me. It’s in one of my books.

Other Elle books I recommend:
Lost and Found (Book 1 in the Love in New York Series) this is the first in a three part contemporary romance.  The first has a creative plot twist and Elle’s trademark funny banter.
All The Glory  is a sweet sport based YA book but don’t let either of those topics keep you from reading.  This a sweet and beautiful story worth your time.  Trust me.
Wrecked
this is a great series about four people ship wrecked on a deserted island.  I LOVED this series and wished she’d write more about these characters.  I loved them!  This was action packed and romantic, it will have your heart racing.
Shine Not Burn
this is a contemporary country romance which I am a big sucker for.  Check out the two in the series they’ll burn up your kindle.

Five Questions with S.L. Scott: Kill, Marry or Screw-Kyle, Cross?

SLScottLet me tell you about my favorite Rock ‘n Roll series out there Hard to Resist. The Reckoning by S.L. Scott is the latest in the series.  The others in the series is The Resistance The Redemption which is a MUST reads.  This series is drama filled with vulnerability and sex appeal. Did I mention they that Jack Dalton aka Johnny Outlaw is SEXY? His love affair with Holiday Hughes is a rocky one but they are meant to be.  Read about their fight to keep their love and keep their melody in tune.

Side note, this is the SEXIEST cover I’ve seen in a long time.  This is screen saver worthy! Right?

3. What type of stories would you like to write but haven’t yet? Menage, BDSM or a sexless romance. The sexless romance should come with a warning. Don’t you think?
I’ve written all types. I think there are expectations with some authors, probably me included, to have some sex in my books now. And honestly, I just like writing realistic sex in realistic situations. As for writing I haven’t, I still feel free enough to write what I want. I don’t feel hindered so if BDSM or ménage or whatever type scene is called for, I’d write it.

Five Questions with Kerry Heavens: Kill, Marry or Screw-Kyle, Cross?

stillhumanLet me tell you I have been waiting for Spencer for ages.  I absolutely loved Kerry’s first two books Just Human and Still HumanNatasha’s a Book Junkie review blog and loads of others loved these books and kept going on about them so I decided to check them out.  Well I was totally blown away by these two books which are now .99 cents.  I wrote to Kerry last year to tell her how much I loved her stories because I know authors love to hear from their fans. As a writer I love hearing from fans. I let her know that she is an inspiration to me as an aspiring writer. Kerry was super nice and wrote back with kind words and support.  So when I found out their her new book Spencer was coming out, I counted the days until the release and I wanted to spread the word about her.  See what she’s got to say about her first romance novel, favorite swear word and what other genre’s she’d like to write.

1. Let’s start off with Kill, Marry or Screw? Gideon Cross, Kellan Kyle or Danny?

My goodness you just go straight in with the impossible questions don’t you!?! I created Danny to be the ultimate romantic, with a huge side of damn sexy. How am I going to say I won’t marry him? He was my moment, my way to get the perfect guy out of my system so that I could start writing imperfect guys. So to not pick him as ultimate husband material is sacrilege!…and then you go and put him up against Kellan and Gideon! So here is the thing In many ways, I love Gideon more than Kellan, but Kellan is special. So, with that in mind…can’t I go off the cliff? I could die happy imagining a Danny/Kellan/Gideon menage…no? Ok FINE! Marry Danny, Screw Kellan and grope Gideon a bit, tell him I’m sorry and then close my eyes so I don’t have to watch him fall.

SPENCERCOVERKINDLE12. Do you remember the first romance book you ever read? Can you tell me about it? I think mine was Bitch by Jackie Collins and I was about 10 or 11

No I can’t. I know that as a child and teen I fell hard for every leading man in every film. But I can’t quite put my finger on when my first book love happened. I can tell you that when I read Jane Eyre at school, I remember feeling that it was one hell of a romance, when a lot of my friends just saw a depressing tale of a down trodden woman. I remember thinking they were missing the point. Jane was a social nobody in a time when that meant you were completely powerless, but yet she held all the power. She was an immensely strong female character and Mr. Rochester had no choice but to worship her in his uniquely standoffish, domineering way. A firm favourite of mine.

3. What type of stories would you like to write but haven’t yet? Menage, BDSM or a sexless romance. The sexless romance should come with a warning. Don’t you think?

Sexless romance should carry the warning -18 SFW, not because it can’t be good, just because I need to know what I’m getting into. As for types of stories I’d like to write, well I think ‘like’ might be the wrong word. I resolutely don’t read anything paranormal. Not that there is anything wrong with it, it just doesn’t float my boat. I have friends writing in the genre and I have read their work and been pleasantly surprised and slightly annoyed to enjoy what I’m reading. So the fact that I now have a paranormal character shouting at me over a perfectly good human one that I have already started writing, is slightly annoying. I’m having to do a lot of research now, but I’m reluctantly writing it. Technically, it’s m/m paranormal erotica. But I’ll try anything once.

4. What’s your favorite thing to do when you aren’t writing or reading?

Oh thats tough. Only because I’m sure other authors, aka ‘better people’ say things like, spending time with their family, or jogging, or charity work. As much as I enjoy spending time with my family, my favourite thing to do is laugh. Hard. My witty amazing kids give me that pleasure, my extremely funny husband gives me that pleasure, but it is with my best friends that I laugh the hardest.

5. What is the one thing you’d like people to know about you when reading your books?

That I am my toughest critic.

6. For bonus points, what’s your favorite swear word? British ones are so much better than US ones.

Bollocks.

SAVAGE1

Five at five with Jade C. Jamison: Kill, Marry or Screw-Kyle, Cross or NOT?

Jade C. Jamison is one of my favorite authors.  I started reading her tortured rocker Bullet series when when it was first released and I was hooked.  This series is about hitting rock bottom and trying to find your way back.  Be prepared this is isn’t your typical rock n’ roll series and that’s what makes it great.  Jade has a new book out Savage, check it out here.  Follow her on social media see the links below.

She took time out of her writing busy schedule to answer my five questions.  See what Jade’s got to say, I love her because she writes about broken sexy people with out apology.  ENJOY!

1. Let’s start off with Kill, Marry or Screw? Gideon Cross, Kellan Kyle or your favorite book boyfriend?

I’m going to be a pain in your ass and answer around this question, but I’ll tell you why. I think any well-written character will evoke any and usually all of these emotions at some point…
WELL PLAYED.:}

2. Do you remember the first romance book you ever read? Can you tell me about it?  I think mine was Bitch by Jackie Collins and I was about 10 or 11.

I think I might have read a couple of Harlequin romances when I was younger, but the first romance I read from cover to cover was Mask of the Enchantress by Victoria Holt. I was 14 and loved the damn thing. I immediately snatched up a couple more of her books! (I read a Jackie Collins novel a few years later—talk about night and day!!!

3. What type of stories would you like to write but haven’t yet? Menage, BDSM or a sexless romance. The sexless romance should come with a warning. Don’t you think?

Hmm. Can’t think of any off the top of my head, simply because if I want to write something, I do. 🙂 I’m laughing about your “sexless romance” comment, because I am sometimes criticized for writing about sex and my first thought is often, “Seriously? This is 2015…”

Slash and Burn4. What’s your favorite thing to do when you aren’t writing or reading?

Is there such a thing? Um…it would have to be spending time with family or friends. There’s nothing better

5. What is the one thing you’d like people to know about you when reading your books?

Hmm…I don’t want them thinking about me when they’re reading my books. I want them to get lost in that world. Think about me when you’re done turning pages. 😉

6. For bonus points, what’s your favorite swear word?

Oh…that’s easy (and probably boring). Any variant of the F word is fair game, and I often use it in several parts of speech (as a verb, noun, adjective…)

Five at five with Jessica Wilde: Kill, Marry or Screw-Kyle, Cross or Powers?

d4dd0837e66dd4c3af8928b5d0c84a1eHere’s five questions from author Jessica Wilde, her book Our Time came to my attention from one of my favorite blog reviews.  I can tell you that it features several of my favorite things in a romance story.  Single mom with a toddler gets me every time, add to that a pet dog that she treats like a human.  Home run! Come on we know we all talk to our dog like they understand us.

Check out her answers.

1. Let’s start off with Kill, Marry or Screw? Gideon Cross, Kellan Kyle or Andrew Carter?
Since I am one of the VERY VERY rare few who have NOT read the Thoughtless series (Cringing because I know there are lots of gasps happening right now, Although I do have the first book on my kindle waiting for me) From what I have heard, however, I would say kill Gideon, screw Kellan, and of course marry Andrew because technically I already did marry my Andrew 🙂

2. Do you remember the first romance book you ever read? Can you tell me about it?
It was Return to Red Castle by Dorothy Keddington. It’s friends to lovers type romance and even though there isn’t really any sex, the sexual tension is so intense and I have read the book several times along with her others.
I fell in love with all of Keddington’s books and later found out that she is actually a distant relative of mine. It was meant to be!

3. What type of stories would you like to write but haven’t yet? Menage, BDSM or a sexless romance. The sexless romance should come with a warning. Don’t you think?
I have a paranormaOur Time New Coverl romance idea that is in my files that I can’t wait to get started on. It is a ways down the list but who knows, if the inspiration comes, it might be sooner. I would love to write a BDSM because it would definitely take me out of my comfort zone as a writer, but I think it would be worth it.

4. What’s your favorite thing to do when you aren’t writing or reading?
I love to be with my daughter and just watch Spongebob with her or take her to the park or shopping. Life gets so busy that those little things become wonders. I also really love to bake so it is a very good thing I am reading and writing all the time 🙂

5. What is the one thing you’d like people to know about you when reading your books?
I have a really hard time dragging out drama. I love reading books with angst and all that stuff that makes you want to throw your kindle against the wall, but if I had to choose, I would prefer the ones where there is no unnecessary stuff that stresses me out *giggling* I’m a very open minded reader, though. I also believe in love at first sight although I don’t implement that belief so completely in my books.

6. For bonus points, what’s your favorite swear word? Shitballs. I use it all the time in my every day life and it works for almost anything.

Check out this review of Our Time on Shh Mom’s Reading Blog.  This convinced me to check it out.

Five at five with Jane Harvey-Berrick: Kill, Marry Screw-Kyle, Cross or Powers?

travelingwoman traveling manJane Harvey-Berrick is one of my favorite authors.  She wrote one of my all time favorite books The Education of Sebastian & Caroline.  If you haven’t read this epic novel then you should!! I’ve read it at least four times.  You won’t be disappointed!

Her back catalog is made of amazing 5 star reads Lifers, Playing in the Rain, At Your Beck & Call and so many more.  Check out her Amazon page for all her books.

Jane’s got a new series Traveling Man & Traveling Woman out about the carnival life and love.  Jane’s written another amazing series about an interesting and different slice of life.  A must read!

You can buy the books here:  Traveling Man & Traveling Woman

I asked Jane to answer my 5 by 5 questions and here’s what she said.

1. Let’s startTyler as Kes off with Kill, Marry or Screw? Gideon Cross, Kellan Kyle or Kestrel Donohue?
Jeez, start with the easy ones, why don’t you?! Um, okay, [starts to sweat]. I’d have to say marry Kestrel because I fell in love with him while I was writing him, but that’s tricky too, because I’ve gotten to know Tyler Gattuso who is the model in the covers. I don’t think he does cougars LOL.

Gideon versus Kellan – hmm. Toss a coin!

2. Do you remember the first romance book you ever read? Can you tell me about it? I think mine was Bitch by Jackie Collins and I was about 10 or 11.
PRIDE AND PREJUDICE by Jane Austen. I had to read it for school and at first I found that world really hard, but by the second class, I fell in love with the story and have been a Jane Austen fan ever since. But my absolute favorite is PERSUASION: a story about a middle-aged woman (for those times) who has given up on love but is given a second chance with the love of her life. Perfect.

3. What type of stories would you like to write but haven’t yet? Menage, BDSM or a sexless romance. The sexless romance should come with a warning. Don’t you think?
There’s a paranormal idea sitting in my ‘book ideas’ folder. I don’t know if it’ll make it into a book, but it might!
I’ve written about a male escort (AT YOUR BECK & CALL) and he had group sex and couples sex, helped voyeurs get off, and got into once with a guy at a party. So that angle is covered. Nah, I’ll pass on BDSM. I wrote a lot of FSOG fanfiction, so I think I’ve gotten that out of my system 😉

A sexless romance? I’ve done slow-burning stories, where the couples get together much later on. But yes, I wrote a thriller, EXPOSURE, where you’re kind of left guessing about the sex.

4. What’s your favorite thing to do when you aren’t writing or reading?
Walking on the beach with my little dog. Clears my mind, but also the time when I get my best ideas.

5. What is the one thing you’d like people to know about you when reading your books?
I write what I want to read myself. I don’t write because it’s “the new thing” like all the stepbrother books that came out after Penelope Ward. That’s probably not entirely fair, because inspiration takes many forms. I was inspired by FIFTY SHADES OF GREY, but when I started writing my own stories, creating my own worlds is the part that I enjoy the most.

I’ve written two plays, as well, both of which are being performed this summer. One is for children, a romp with pirates and smugglers and lots of music, but the other is a tough, uncompromising play for adults. It’s a tough subject, about an ex-soldier who is suffering from PTSD. The mini tour is raising money for the UK charity www.felixfund.org.uk It’s a charity that helps men and women – and their families – who were bomb disposal personnel in the military. A close friend of mine worked in that area, so yeah, very important to me. https://www.facebook.com/LaterAfterNEWDRAM

6. For bonus points, what’s your favorite swear word?

British ones are so much better than US ones.   Tosser!

Thanks Jane!!

Five at five with Harper Bentley: Kill, Marry Screw-Kyle, Cross or Powers?

Here’s a new feature for me, I am calling it 5 by 5.  There will be five questions from some of my favorite authors.  I hope you will get to know some great author as well as checking out their books. I am launching the feature with one of my all time favorite author’s Harper Bentley. Check out her new addition to the HOT Powers that Be brother series.

Zeke (The Powers That Be Book 2) only 99cents on Amazon now.

ZekecoverNick_bateman1

Nick Batemen inspired Zeke. Check him out here.

1.     Lets start off with Kill, Marry or Screw? Gideon Cross, Kellan Kyle or Gable Power.
Kill–Gideon Cross, Marry-Kellan Kyle,  Screw–Gable Powers (ha in your order)

2.     Do you remember the first romance book you ever read? Can you tell me about it? Forever by Judy Blume was one my best friend & I snuck out & read all the dirty parts together but I think the first romance novel I read by myself was Rage of Angels by Sidney Sheldon when I was 15. I lived with my very Christian grandma so I didn’t have access to anything!

3.     What type of stories would you like to write but haven’t yet? Menage, BDSM or a sexless romance. Probably BDSM but I’d have to do TONS of research on it. I find some of it pretty freakin’ hot, though! Menage? Um, no… I’m too jealous & possessive 😉 Sexless romance? I guess I could try writing YA someday. I mean, I DO teach 14-15 year olds so I’m exposed to their silliness daily. (Harper day’s job is shaping the minds of youngster as a teacher.)

4.     What’s your favorite thing to do when you aren’t writing or reading? I really enjoy hanging out with my 17 year-old daughter just chatting or shopping or eating at new restaurants 🙂

5.     What is the one thing you’d like people to know about you when reading your books? That each of my books is like a child to me & I put everything into them. I had someone ask me a while back which of my books was my favorite & I gasped. That’s like asking me which of my children I like best. (I totally agree on this one.)

6.     For bonus points, what’s your favorite swear word? Fuck. Best word ever. Favorite phrase: “Are you fucking kidding me?”<–most often used while driving 😉

Thanks Harper!

Here’s some of her other books to check out.

Gable (The Powers That Be Book 1)

Bigger Than the Sky (Serenity Point Book 1)
Amelia in this story is funny despite the predicament she’s landed herself in.  Back home facing the guy she left at the altar. You’ll sympathize with her and want her to get her HEA.  A must read!

pointing at mePOINTING AT ME: How do our readers find us?

Just like Blake Shelton on The Voice pointing at himself to get picked to be on his team. As indie authors we have to put our hand over our head and point at ourselves to get readers attention. The key is to be charming as Blake Shelton but maybe not as drunk. In the past, we needed a publisher to shine a light on us, now we can do it ourselves. Unfortunately, I believe for many authors this is counter intuitive to their nature. As writers we want to sit in a room and be alone with our characters and stories. Now we have to out there and talk about ourselves, basically it’s pimping our selves and lets face it there’s only a small amount of people who can be Huggy Bear. (Starsky & Hutch reference look it up.) This is a necessary evil and it actually will make you a better author.

As someone who just published her first book, INSTANT CONNECTION VOL. 1 this summer, I am finding my way trying to discover the new frontier of self-publishing and promotion. Luckily I come in with a marketing and PR background in video games so I understand more than most about pricing, social media and promotion. Yet I am still learning the new and important lessons and trying learn from mistakes.

The great thing about the new digital frontier is that none of us are dependent on big publishers to publish our books. These are our stories, we own them, we decide the price, promote them and the freedom to do what we like. However, like Spiderman with that comes great responsibility in marketing and promotion our books. This is a entire other job that we must learn and maintain as well as write our 5,000 words a day.

Here’s what I’ve learned and what are the common mistakes we are making in promoting our books and ourselves. Take it or leave it.

bionic

THE WORD OF THE DAY IS DISCOVERY
The most interesting discovery I’ve made while working on building my platform over the last year is that almost everyone one of us has a story to tell. The biggest challenge for any of us isn’t writing the story but having someone discover us and this is true in games, music and other media now.  How do our readers find us?

There are SO many authors out there promoting their own stuff it makes it hard for readers to find us even on the convention platforms-Blogs, Twitter, Facebook, Amazon Top 100. As we know most people use the Amazon top 100 to buy their books, if you aren’t in the top 100 then no one can find you. This is exactly the same in video games.  I now use bloggers reviews and social media to make my book decision not Amazon.

The challenge is to make yourself, stand out while everyone is out there trying to tell their own stories too. As an avid reader I can tell you so many people are out there writing some great stories that aren’t getting discovered because they don’t know how to market and promote themselves in this new frontier. There’s no perfect way to do this but there are more efficient ways to do it. Trust me I am not expert either however, here’s some of the valuable tips I’ve learned in the last year.

makingfriends

BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS
I spend the first two hours of my morning working on promoting other author’s books and blogs that I like to read or that I have discovered. Recommending books, movies and images over social media is a good way to get people to know you, like your feed and value your opinion.  Also it helps Twitter/Facebook understand and recommend information and people for you.  As an avid reader its also a good way to find another great authors and their stories. Before I began to write, I was always looking for recommendations on books but knew nothing about all the great romance blogs out there like Aestas, Schmexy, ShhMom’sReading and so many others.  Following an author, a blog and even an avid reader can form a valuable relationship in promoting them and finding out about new authors and helping promote yourself in the future.

MAKE FRIENDS
I’ve emailed some of my favorite authors to tell them how much I like their books and they always write back to tell me how much they love to hear from their fans. I know I would love it!  Often I’ve asked questions about things they’ve learned selling their books or their creative process. Their support has been super helpful and inspiring to me.  They will  never know who much it means to me. I think its important to support my favorite authors because they inspire me everyday to keep writing.  Plus it’s really fun and I find it great moral support when you are having a bad day.  Trust me you’ll need them!

DON’T BULLY
I’ve had emails from author friends who talk about social media bullying and that breaks my heart.  I try to put out as much positivity as possible but apparently there are people who feel it necessary to criticize and bully authors online and in reviews.  Try not to let those people stop you from writing your stories or sharing them with others.  I’ll confess this sort of negativity has made me apprehensive about pushing that publish button but we shouldn’t let them win.   Just do it!

cellphoneFACEBOOK MISTAKES
When setting up on Facebook don’t set up your account to request friends, instead set up a community/author page so you can be liked. I don’t want to have you as a friend, I don’t want to see your holiday photos. Many of you have probably set this up early on in FB and don’t want to force people over to the new platform so stick with it.  You should change it, this just makes it easier for everyone. Facebook changes their feed all the time and you might lose those people as friends.  There’s been so many authors who’ve missed out me following them because they request me a friend.

TWITTER MISTAKES
If you are going to tweet about an author’s book, include their handle in the tweet. This way it shows up in the authors feed, this gives you possible more followers from that authors feed. This gives everyone double the exposure to the book your promoting. Also this helps you to possibly get a follow from that particular author.   I feel supporting it each other is really important.

I also try and follow at least five new people a day. I do my best to follow readers or blogs that are within my interest not just everyone that comes up in my recommendations. Having people follow you that like the things you do will help when you are marketing your book. You don’t want a bunch of people into Historical fiction following you, they will unfollow you quicker than a time traveling Scotsman pulling up his kilt.  This will also avoid too much noise on your own feed so you can keep up.

Everyday I receive blog emails telling me about new releases and giveaways.  I look through them check out the author and usually follow and like the author if they again follow my interests.   Every author needs followers if you like the person’s book or even the way it is described, you should follow them. I am a firm believer we need to help support each other if I can do that by following a new writer I do it.

KINDREADEROWN YOUR READERS
Have your own website and newsletter. Capturing emails from users is key to discovery. Many authors rely on Facebook and Twitter too much what happens when these platforms goes away, you don’t own your readers. I can almost guarantee the way technology changes in the new world these sites won’t be around in another five years. Does anyone use My Space? Friendster? Then again maybe email won’t be around either however, if you can have direct contact with your reader that’s much more valuable.

For example, you know the dreaded cliff hanger book, if you are on someone’s mailing list they might send you an email with an exclusive excerpt about the latest book in the series. How great, right? There’s been so many times I’ve read that type of book and then never knew when the next book came out.  There might be an opportunity to win exclusive merchandise from that author. As an author, you can also make your web site more valuable if you have a large user database. You can offer your site to do advertising for products and also do cross promotions with other writers. Your web site had value and writers should treat it as a valuable platform but so many don’t.  Probably because of their lack of technology or the understanding of the value.  Not to mention it is a big time suck!

frustratedAMAZON AUTHORS PAGE
Everyone should have an Authors page on Amazon, if you don’t you are insane. END OF STORY! Many of you out there don’t any you know it.  Get it sorted it will take 5 minutes.

MY BIGGEST PET PEEVE
My biggest frustration when I go to tweet about a new author, they don’t have a Twitter account. Twitter is the most effective way to know people are talking about you. Facebook can work too but it’s slightly harder to chase traffic. As an author you should have your web site, a Twitter, a Facebook and a Goodreads page at a minimum.   If you don’t you are missing out on an entire channel to market to. Think of it like the four major TV networks ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox. What if you didn’t get ABC, you’d miss Modern Family, Nashville and all your favorites but you might all miss a new show that you didn’t know you liked. I’ve discovered so many great books on Twitter. It’s well worth your time.

Don’t give me that excuse you don’t understand it, or you don’t have time. Did you know you can manage your Twitter and Facebook using different programs that will schedule out your posts? I use Buffer it works great and it posts pictures so you can see them. If you want to write and own your destiny then you have to promote yourself the most effective way you can. Use all the channels available!!

happyHERE’S MY SOLUTION
Here’s my solution and its simple, share!! I think its really important to reach out to other authors you like and form relationships. Share your own experience, what you love and makes you happy. I believe that the indie authors should form collectives and work together to support each other to avoid ever needing a publisher. Reaching out to authors and asking for help has been very helpful to me because I’ve discovered that all of us are struggling with the same things like daily word count, inspiration and sometimes unfortunate bullying.

There’s bit of a tier system with the indie writer community, there’s the well known ladies like Kristen Ashley, Elle Casey, Penelope Ward and Cassia Leo to name a few. They’ve worked hard and have a level success and then there’s a mid teir that get some coverage when their book comes out.

Then there’s the rest of us who are trying to get the bloggers attention and get the word out. We all know that bloggers and the Amazon’s hot list are the way most people sell their books however, for so many of us can’t break that barrier. The bloggers now are so busy covering the rock stars of romance that they have a hard time discovering the hidden gems out there. What would be super helpful is if more of the bloggers would spotlight or list their top 5 truly indie books, maybe by first time authors? Some of them are doing that sort of thing the best they can but it would be great is Amazon did more (that’s a blog post for another time). We should petition Amazon to do an indie romance list.

heartthumbAt the end of the day, I don’t want to have to deal with a large publisher so the cost of my books go up. I’d rather charge you $3.99 for my book and do it myself versus charging you $6.99 because some big publisher needs to get their cut. Admittedly I might have to work harder to promote that book but at least it’s my book and I get to decide. I don’t know about you but I rarely buy a book for more than $4.99 no matter who the author. Sylvia Day and Maya Banks are about the only two that will get me to buy a book that expensive. Oh and Diana Gabaldon but no one else. JR Ward’s has priced herself out of my list of TBR’s. How about you?

Spreading the word and the love is crucial now and helping out others will only be rewarded. Pay it forward, friend, follow and like a new authors and blogs every day. Just remind yourself that you’d want them to do it for you.

I spend the majority of my day promoting other people’s stories and then my own. Then the rest of the day I write my own stories.  To all the authors out there good luck and keep it up, someone out there wants to discover what you have to say. I know I do, drop me a mail.

Finally, always KEEP IT POSITIVE!!
