What’s occurin with James Corden and the Late Late Show

James_CordenWell I love James Corden and he’s in one of the best romance program’s of all time Gavin & Stacy.

As a big fan of the Craig Ferguson show I was so excited when they announced that James Corden would be taking over for him in March 2015. Ferguson’s show was always a great place for an anglophile like myself to enjoy his sense of humor and A-list UK guests. Come on he had a TARDIS on his desk!!

If you don’t really watch late night television Jame’s new show might be worth recording like recording Ellen or your stories. A must!

James showed up on to my radar in the film The History Boys with many of his other contemporaries Dominic Cooper and Russell Tovey to name a few.

He’s a mega star in the UK creating the popular program Gavin & Stacey with his writing partner Ruth Jones (see video below). This three series sensation is ultimately a charming look at love and families. The show has been optioned into a pilot twice in the US and not being picked up either time. This last pilot starred Alexis Bledel (Rory Gilmore herself) and Jason Ritter (Parenthood). If you can’t get people to like them then you might as well kick a puppy.

The root of the show is very British but don’t let that put you off. The appeal is universal if you enjoy a brilliant love story. James plays Smithy the best friend of Gavin the star of the story. Stacey is played by the lovely Joanna Page from Love Actually, the stand in actress with Martin Freeman (Sherlock). As the program progresses, Smithy and Nessa (Ruth Jones, Stacey’s quirky best friend) become the real love story you want to see happen.

For me Gavin & Stacey is a show that I watch at least once a year especially around Christmas. You can watch it for FREE on YouTube. Link below.  I can’t express how much I love this show and so will you. Check out interview with James and his partner Ruth talking about the creation of the show.

Gavin and Stacey meet for the first time after only ever speaking to each other on the phone at work. They both bring along their best friends Smithy and Nessa, who after a frosty start get to know each other a little better.

Some of you might have only become aware of James in the film Into the Woods at Christmas time. He starred in the West End & Broadway award-winning hit One Man Two Guvnors. I was lucky enough to see him in it and he was amazing. Check out a clip of James here.

“One Man, Two Guvnors” starring James Corden

James is a British national treasure and I think if you give his new show a shot he will be here as well. He’s funny, charming and adorable to equal Fallon or Kimmel.  If you don’t believe me check out this charity video he did with George Michael it rivals any of Kimmel’s or Fallon’s. Some other great UK cameos in the video other than George. A must watch!

If you can’t stay up late and check it out. DVR’s were made for shows like the Late Late Show. Don’t be a blonker and miss it!!

**What’s occurin?

This phrase was brought into the British lexicon by the UK hit show Gavin & Stacey that James Corden wrote with Ruth Jones. Jones character Nessa greated her friends and family with it.

Derived from the character Nessa on hit TV series “Gavin and Stacey“. Made famous by radio DJ Scott Mills (unkown-present) with the “Oh What’s Occurin? Game”.
